Elementary School Teacher Pleads to Assaulting Rowland Students

A former second-grade teacher at Rowland Elementary School has entered a no contest plea for sexually assaulting five students, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced to Feb. 12.

Deputy District Attorney Michelle Graves said Jose Cruz Martinez of Rowland Heights pleaded yesterday to four felony counts of lewd act upon a child and one misdemeanor count of child molesting.

Sentencing in case KA117953 is scheduled on March 21 in Department N of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Pomona Branch. Martinez faces five years in state prison.

The defendant inappropriately touched four girls ages 7 and 8 on the school campus between August 2017 and April 2018.

The case was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
